The Studio

Deslyn is a boutique design practice founded by Sarah-Jane Allen, who brought together a decade of experience under internationally acclaimed studios — Martin Brudnizki, David Collins, Elicyon — with her own passion for painting. The studio delivers residential and hospitality interiors from their Earlsfield space, where a pink John Brinsmead & Sons piano anchors the room and abstract canvases line the walls.

The goal was to photograph the studio as a living workspace: the materials, the process, the objects they curate, and the person behind it all.

The Designer

Sarah-Jane moves between selecting fabrics at the work table and painting abstract canvases on the studio floor — often in the same afternoon. Photographing someone in their own space, doing the work they love, is where portraiture is at its strongest. There's no direction needed. You wait for the real moment.

The Artist

Behind the curtain that divides the studio, the design table gives way to paint bottles and canvas. The abstract paintings that hang in the showroom and appear in completed interiors are made here on the floor, with squeegees and poured acrylics. The art isn't separate from the design practice. It's the source.
